Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre

Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre Image

Montrose Basin is the extensive enclosed estuary of the South Esk river. Virtually untouched by industrial development and pollution, the reserve provides a rich feeding ground for thousands of resident and migrant birds including eider duck, pink-footed and greylag geese. The Wildlife Centre offers magnificent views of wildlife on the Basin through high-powered telescopes.

Television cameras bring the wildlife literally into the Centre. Unique displays demonstrate how a tidal basin works and show the routes of migrating birds. A 'boxwatch' system is in operation during spring and summer, allowing visitors to view the family life of bluetits and swallows.

Pedestrian access onto the reserve is also possible from Old Montrose Pier and along the sea wall to the Bridge of Dun and at the old landfill site at Tayock. Parking is possible at various points around the basin and at the visitor centre.

from 10.30am - 5.00pm
